What factors determine the price of a patio cover?

The price of a patio cover is an important question and a factor that many people take into account. A lot of elements come into play: think about the size, the material or any extras you want to add to the covering. In this blog you can read more about the options and the influence they can have on the price of your patio covering.

What material can I choose?

At TerrasPro, we work with two different types of material: aluminum and wood.

Aluminum patio canopy

Aluminum is a popular material for a patio cover thanks to its light weight and strong load-bearing capacity. Moreover, the material is available in different colors, making it easy to match the style of your home or garden.

A great advantage of aluminum is that it is very easy to maintain. The material barely rusts, lasts for years and can be cleaned quickly with a cloth and some soap. This keeps your patio cover looking brand new, without intensive maintenance.

Are you looking for the cheapest solution? Then aluminum may not be your best friend. While it's not extremely expensive, there are cheaper alternatives for those whose main concern is price.

Wooden patio canopy

One of the cheaper alternatives to aluminum is wood. A wooden patio cover immediately gives your garden a warm look, which can fit perfectly with a rural home. Moreover, you can paint or stain the wood in different colors, so it always matches the facade or style of your home nicely.

Unfortunately, wood also has a disadvantage, for example, it requires much more maintenance than other materials. To maintain the authentic look of the wood, it is important to treat it regularly with stain or varnish. In addition, you must also keep the canopy clean to prevent moss or discoloration.

How big should my canopy be?

The ideal size of your patio cover depends on several factors:

  • The use of the canopy: covered patio, carport, more storage space, ...
  • The space at your disposal
  • The number of people who will sit under the canopy

Just want to create a cozy sitting area for two people? Then a canopy of about 3 by 2 meters is often sufficient. Do you have bigger plans, such as a dining table with chairs or lounge area? Then it is best to choose a larger canopy of, say, 6 by 3 meters.

Also keep in mind that you provide enough room to move around and that the canopy fits nicely into the proportions of your home and garden.

Are glass doors and fixed walls a good idea?

We think so! Sliding glass doors or fixed walls give your patio cover a luxurious look. They provide protection from wind and rain, while still allowing you to enjoy the view of your garden.

Keep in mind, however, that this upgrade comes with an additional price tag. Glass walls or doors are more expensive than open construction, but then they offer more comfort and are a long-term value. It is an investment that will pay for itself through several ways.

With or without patio heaters?

A patio canopy is much more than a shelter over your patio, it creates a cozy spot in your garden where you can enjoy carefree. Moreover, you can also dress it up with a lot of fun accessories. For example, you can opt for LED lighting in your canopy or even add patio heaters.

As you've probably noticed by now, it's not easy to stick a fixed price on a patio cover. That's why at TerrasPro we always make a personal quote tailored to your project. That way you won't get any surprises and you know exactly where you stand.
