There are a lot of roofing options for aluminum patio covers. We list 3 common materials for you:

• Glass
  When you choose glass, you’re choosing style. Glass offers an unobstructed view while also providing excellent insulation. However, it can get hot quickly under glass, so additional sun protection is definitely a plus. Glass also has a luxurious look and provides excellent protection against wind and rain, while still allowing you to see everything. Glass is also strong and relatively low-maintenance. Moss and algae have a hard time adhering to glass, making it easy to clean. Glass is heavy, however, so the structure and frame of your patio cover must have sufficient load-bearing capacity. For large spans, additional posts may be necessary to support the weight of the glass panels. If you choose glass, special sun-protective insulating glass is the best choice. Safety glass is also the standard choice.

• Polycarbonate
  This plastic is ideal for large surfaces. This sturdy material blocks UV light, which prevents your furniture from fading. Rain can, however, cause some noise. This material is clear and resembles glass, but is less expensive. It is virtually unbreakable and ideal for large canopies. It is, however, slightly rougher than glass and also slightly more susceptible to scratches.

  Slats These are individual slats in the desired width for the roof. There are also options with adjustable slats that allow you to open up your roof.
• 
  A shade cloth is an inexpensive solution. It’s perfect, especially in sunny weather. The advantage is that it’s easy to take down; so you don’t have to leave a shade cloth up during the winter. Shade cloths also create an instant summery feel and are available in many different styles. Most shade cloths are made of polyester, and some even have a coating that repels dirt and water.
