When dreaming of the perfect outdoor space, the terms "patio cover" and "porch" often come up. Although they are sometimes used interchangeably, they are different structures that offer unique benefits and styles. Terracepro is here to clarify these differences and help you make the right choice for your home.
What is a patio cover?
A patio canopy, also called a pergola or patio canopy, is a structure that provides protection from the elements, such as sun and rain. It is usually attached to the house and serves as an extension of the living space. Patio canopies are versatile and can be adapted to different styles and preferences. They can be completely open or feature an adjustable roof to adjust the amount of light and air coming through.
The main differences
- Design: Terrace roofs tend to be simpler and more flexible in design, while verandas are more robust and enclosed.
- Protection from the elements: A porch offers more protection from weather conditions thanks to its more solid construction.
- Installation: Terrace covers are generally easier and faster to install than verandas.
- Cost: Because patio covers require fewer materials and are easier to install, they also tend to be more cost-effective.
